Frequently asked questions
A new authority list is a weekly CSV of public records for vendors who sell to new trucking companies or to New York City job sites. Each file lists what was newly granted or issued, and person fields are left out. A new file covers the previous Monday to Sunday and is normally posted on Tuesday.
Short, plain answers. Each product page has its own questions and answers too.
Questions and answers
What is in each file?
Each file is a short weekly CSV of public records: New Trucking Authority List, NYC New Building Permits List, NYC Code Violations List. Every file has a free 10-row preview and a full field list on its page. Rows carry the source and the pull time.
Where does the data come from and how often is it updated?
New Trucking Authority List: U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), U.S. Department of Transportation, Motus AuthHist (All With History) joined to Motus Carrier (All With History). NYC New Building Permits List: New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data, DOB NOW: Build - Approved Permits. NYC Code Violations List: New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data, DOB ECB Violations. A new file covers the previous Monday to Sunday (US Eastern) and is normally posted on Tuesday. Sources post with a delay, and records posted after we build a file are not added to it.
What is removed from the files?
Names of people, free text and owner data are not shipped. Phone numbers, email addresses, and owner and respondent names are left out, and description text is replaced by topic labels from a fixed list. The trucking file has no street addresses. The NYC files can carry the property address of a building. A company name is kept only when it passes a business-name test, so some real companies are blank on purpose. The checks are automatic and can miss a name. A property address can be a private home. If you find a name or a private detail, report it and we will remove it from future builds.
How are the files cleaned, deduped and enriched?
Cleaning: dates in ISO format, plain column names, one tidy table per source. Dedupe: one row per docket, permit or violation number. Enrichment: for trucking, city, state and insurance and bond flags are joined from the carrier table; for NYC violations, a street address is added from the permits table where the building number matches; for NYC permits and violations, topic labels from a fixed list are added. Each product page lists the exact steps.
How much does it cost, and how do I cancel?
New Trucking Authority List: $9 for one weekly file or $29 a month; NYC New Building Permits List: $9 for one weekly file or $29 a month; NYC Code Violations List: $9 for one weekly file or $29 a month. Cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the billing period you have paid for. Refunds: write to freshfilingsfl@gmail.com within 7 days of the charge. We refund the full charge ($9 for a single file, $29 for a monthly charge) if the file has a problem we caused that we cannot fix, if you were charged after your cancellation took effect, or if you were charged twice. We do not refund part of a billing period after you cancel.
Is this affiliated with a government agency?
No. Built from public records published by FMCSA and the City of New York. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA, the US Department of Transportation, the NYC Department of Buildings or the City of New York. Files are not the official record.
