The file starts with 3 comment lines that begin with #. Delete them if your tool does not skip them.
Left out on purpose
No owner names or owner addresses, no applicant first, middle or last names, no license numbers, no filing representative fields. The job description text is not shipped: description_topics holds labels from a fixed list that we tick from the text, and no word of the source text is copied. Business names follow the same rule as S1: kept only with a business suffix or keyword and no person-name match, else blank and flagged. work_on_floor is kept only when it holds floor words and numbers. The person-name test can miss a name that is on neither list.
This applies to the sample and to the paid file.

Questions and answers: NYC New Building Permits List
What is in the NYC new building permits list?
Each row is one newly issued NYC Department of Buildings initial permit, with one row per permit. Columns include permit and job filing numbers, issue date, property address, borough, zip code, BIN and BBL, work types, estimated job cost, and the contractor business name when it passes a business-name test. The file has 31 columns. The latest sample pull has 8,249 permits, dated 2026-09-10 to 2026-10-09.
Where does the data come from and how often is it updated?
The data comes from New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data: DOB NOW: Build - Approved Permits, on data.cityofnewyork.us. One file each week, for the previous Monday to Sunday (US Eastern). Records a source posts after we build a file are not added to that file. New files are normally posted on Tuesday. Sources post with a delay.
What is removed from the file?
Owner names and addresses, applicant first, middle and last names, license numbers and filing representative fields are not in the file. The job description text is not shipped: topic labels from a fixed list replace it. Business names are blanked by a person-name test, which can miss a name.
How is the file cleaned, deduped and enriched?
We pull DOB NOW approved permits from NYC Open Data and keep the Initial Permit filings. The source repeats a permit once per work type, so we merge those rows into one row per permit (dedupe). We convert dates to ISO, scrub email, phone and URL patterns, and add topic labels from a fixed list (enrichment) in place of the description text.
How much does the NYC new building permits list cost, and how do I cancel?
$9 buys one weekly file, once. $29 a month buys a new weekly file each week until you cancel. Cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the billing period you have paid for. Refunds: write to freshfilingsfl@gmail.com within 7 days of the charge. We refund the full charge ($9 for a single file, $29 for a monthly charge) if the file has a problem we caused that we cannot fix, if you were charged after your cancellation took effect, or if you were charged twice. We do not refund part of a billing period after you cancel.
Is this affiliated with a government agency?
No. Built from public records published by FMCSA and the City of New York. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA, the US Department of Transportation, the NYC Department of Buildings or the City of New York. Files are not the official record.

Known limits
- A permit is an approval to start work. It is not proof that the job went ahead. Estimated cost is as the applicant filed it.
- The source repeats a permit once per work type. We merge those into one row per permit.
- description_topics is a coarse label list. It leaves out detail on purpose, so it will not tell you everything the job description said. About 4 in 100 permits get no label.
- The person-name test can blank a real company and can miss a name that is on neither of its lists.
- The source can change or correct a record at any time. We do not promise the data is complete, current or accurate. Check the source before you rely on a record.
Cadence and freshness
- Cadence: One file each week, for the previous Monday to Sunday (US Eastern). Records a source posts after we build a file are not added to that file.
- Freshness: Updated from the source on the build date. Each row carries the pull time. The sample above was updated from the source on 2026-10-09.
