10 real rows from the sample pull, with all 25 columns of the paid file.
The file starts with 3 comment lines that begin with #. Delete them if your tool does not skip them.
Left out on purpose
No respondent names or respondent addresses, no hearing times, no internal extract ids. The violation description text is not shipped: violation_topics holds labels from a fixed list that we tick from the text, and no word of the source text is copied. The street address we add is a property address and can be a private home. We leave it blank on rows whose topics say sleeping or dwelling use or illegal occupancy.
This applies to the sample and to the paid file.
Sample
These are 10 real rows of the sample pull. Some columns are empty in most rows, so the preview includes a few older rows that fill them. The rest are the newest rows. The table shows 9 of the 25 columns. The CSV has all of them.

Questions and answers: NYC Code Violations List
What is in the NYC code violations list?
Each row is one ECB violation issued through the NYC Department of Buildings. Columns include violation number, issue date, borough, violation type, class, status, penalty, amount paid, balance due, topic labels, and a street address where one could be matched from the permits table. The file has 25 columns. The latest sample pull has 4,614 violations, dated 2026-09-08 to 2026-10-07.
Where does the data come from and how often is it updated?
The data comes from New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data: DOB ECB Violations, on data.cityofnewyork.us. One file each week, for the previous Monday to Sunday (US Eastern). Records a source posts after we build a file are not added to that file. New files are normally posted on Tuesday. Sources post with a delay.
What is removed from the file?
Respondent names and addresses, hearing times and internal extract ids are not in the file. The violation description text is not shipped: topic labels from a fixed list replace it. The street address we add can be a private home, so we leave it blank on rows tagged with dwelling use or illegal occupancy topics.
How is the file cleaned, deduped and enriched?
We pull DOB ECB Violations from NYC Open Data and keep one row per ECB violation number (dedupe). We convert dates to ISO, map the borough code to a borough name, format money to 2 decimals and scrub email, phone and URL patterns. We add a street address from the newest permit with the same building number (BIN) where one exists, which is partial (enrichment), and topic labels from a fixed list.
How much does the NYC code violations list cost, and how do I cancel?
$9 buys one weekly file, once. $29 a month buys a new weekly file each week until you cancel. Cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the billing period you have paid for. Refunds: write to freshfilingsfl@gmail.com within 7 days of the charge. We refund the full charge ($9 for a single file, $29 for a monthly charge) if the file has a problem we caused that we cannot fix, if you were charged after your cancellation took effect, or if you were charged twice. We do not refund part of a billing period after you cancel.
Is this affiliated with a government agency?
No. Built from public records published by FMCSA and the City of New York. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA, the US Department of Transportation, the NYC Department of Buildings or the City of New York. Files are not the official record.
What we do to the source data
- Leading equals, plus, minus and at-sign characters removed from text cells (spreadsheet safety).
- One row per ECB violation number.
- Dates to ISO.
- Borough code to name.
- Money to 2 decimals.
- All respondent fields dropped.
- Violation description text not shipped: replaced by topic labels from a fixed list.
- Email, phone, URL patterns scrubbed from other text cells.
- Address added from permits table by BIN where one exists (partial), left blank when the violation topics say sleeping or dwelling use or illegal occupancy.
- Columns renamed.

Known limits
- This table holds ECB summonses, not every Department of Buildings violation.
- The source has no street address for the premises. We add one from the newest permit with the same building number (BIN) in the NYC permits table. That match is partial. The rest of the rows keep borough, block and lot only. Rows tagged sleeping or dwelling use or illegal occupancy or conversion also have the address left blank, because those can be about a private home.
- violation_topics is a coarse label list. It leaves out detail on purpose. About 2 in 100 violations get no label.
- Codes such as 1E4 (digit, letter E, digit) may show as numbers in Excel (10000). Import the infraction_code column as text.
- A property address can be a private home. The file names no owner or respondent, but an address can still point to the people who live there. Handle it with care.
- The source can change or correct a record at any time. We do not promise the data is complete, current or accurate. Check the source before you rely on a record.
Cadence and freshness
- Cadence: One file each week, for the previous Monday to Sunday (US Eastern). Records a source posts after we build a file are not added to that file.
- Freshness: Updated from the source on the build date. Each row carries the pull time. The sample above was updated from the source on 2026-10-09.
