Data sources and terms
These files are weekly CSVs built from public records. The trucking list uses FMCSA Motus tables on data.transportation.gov. The NYC lists use NYC Open Data from the Department of Buildings. We filter to new records, dedupe to one row and drop person fields. We are not affiliated with those agencies, and the files are not the official record.
Built from public records published by FMCSA and the City of New York. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA, the US Department of Transportation, the NYC Department of Buildings or the City of New York.
How we use the data
- We use public data portals and published data files only. We do not scrape agency websites.
- We filter to new records, keep a set of business columns, remove duplicates, format dates and add a source stamp on every row.
- We remove person fields, and free text is dropped, not shipped. The checks are automatic and can miss things. If you find a name or a private detail in a file, report an error and we will remove it. Details are on each product page.
- Files are built from company records. We do not sell email addresses or phone numbers.
Accuracy
Data is provided as is. Sources can change or correct records at any time. We do not promise it is complete, current or accurate. Files are not the official record. Check the official source before you rely on a record. See the terms of sale.
Sources by product
New Trucking Authority List
- Agency: U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), U.S. Department of Transportation
- Dataset: Motus AuthHist (All With History) joined to Motus Carrier (All With History)
- Where: https://data.transportation.gov/resource/yu5v-wbh6.json and https://data.transportation.gov/resource/inys-ebih.json
- Version: pulled 2026-10-09 20:13 EDT, rows dated 2026-09-10 to 2026-10-09.
- Terms in short: FMCSA says it shares this data at no charge to the public, and US government works carry no copyright (17 U.S.C. 105). The portal license label for these datasets reads "unknown-license" and has no text, so we mark this as limited-use and keep to business fields.
- Changes we make: leading equals, plus, minus and at-sign characters removed from text cells (spreadsheet safety); filtered to Granted events; one row per docket; dates to ISO; company name kept only with a business suffix or keyword and no person-name match (first-name and surname lists), else blanked and flagged; zip blanked on blanked-name rows; email, phone, URL patterns scrubbed from all text cells; columns renamed.
- Credit line: Source: FMCSA data published on data.transportation.gov (Motus AuthHist, yu5v-wbh6, and Motus Carrier, inys-ebih). New Authority Lists filtered the records, joined the two tables, dropped fields and formatted them. This is not the official record.
NYC New Building Permits List
- Agency: New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data
- Dataset: DOB NOW: Build - Approved Permits
- Where: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/rbx6-tga4.json
- Version: pulled 2026-10-09 20:13 EDT, rows dated 2026-09-10 to 2026-10-09.
- Terms in short: NYC Open Data says there are no restrictions on the use of Open Data. NYC asks that republished data name the source, the version and the changes made. We do that on each product page, on the data sources page and in the header of every file.
- Changes we make: leading equals, plus, minus and at-sign characters removed from text cells (spreadsheet safety); filtered to Initial Permit; one row per work permit, work types merged; dates to ISO (date only); business names kept only with a business suffix or keyword and no person-name match, else blanked and flagged; job description text not shipped: replaced by topic labels from a fixed list; work_on_floor kept only when it holds floor words and numbers; email, phone, URL patterns scrubbed from all text cells; columns renamed.
- Credit line: Source: NYC Open Data, DOB NOW: Build - Approved Permits (rbx6-tga4), from the NYC Department of Buildings. New Authority Lists filtered the records, merged work types, dropped fields and formatted them. This is not the official record.
NYC Code Violations List
- Agency: New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), through NYC Open Data
- Dataset: DOB ECB Violations
- Where: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/6bgk-3dad.json
- Version: pulled 2026-10-09 20:13 EDT, rows dated 2026-09-08 to 2026-10-07.
- Terms in short: NYC Open Data says there are no restrictions on the use of Open Data. NYC asks that republished data name the source, the version and the changes made. We do that on each product page, on the data sources page and in the header of every file.
- Changes we make: leading equals, plus, minus and at-sign characters removed from text cells (spreadsheet safety); one row per ECB violation number; dates to ISO; borough code to name; money to 2 decimals; all respondent fields dropped; violation description text not shipped: replaced by topic labels from a fixed list; email, phone, URL patterns scrubbed from other text cells; address added from permits table by BIN where one exists (partial), left blank when the violation topics say sleeping or dwelling use or illegal occupancy; columns renamed.
- Credit line: Source: NYC Open Data, DOB ECB Violations (6bgk-3dad), from the NYC Department of Buildings, with street addresses added from DOB NOW: Build - Approved Permits (rbx6-tga4) where the building number matched. New Authority Lists filtered the records, dropped fields and formatted them. This is not the official record.
Using the files
You are responsible for how you use the data. You must follow CAN-SPAM, the TCPA, do-not-call rules and state privacy and marketing laws. Do not use it to contact people at home or to decide credit, jobs, housing or insurance eligibility for a person. See the terms of sale.
Report an error or ask for a removal
To report an error or ask for a record to be removed, write to freshfilingsfl@gmail.com with the file name, the row id (docket, permit or violation number) and what is wrong. Please do not send private details beyond that. We reply within 5 business days. If we agree, we put the row id on a removal list that every build reads, so the record leaves future files and the free previews from the next build. A removal request changes future builds only. It does not change a file a buyer already downloaded, and it does not edit the weekly files we have already built and stored. Stored files expire by replacement, not by edit: we keep the newest 8 weekly files of each product and delete older ones when a new week is added, the monthly download page lists only the newest 4, and a single-file link stops working 30 days after purchase. A removed record can therefore stay in stored files for up to 8 weeks, and it stays in any copy a buyer already saved. We cannot change the public source record: ask the agency that publishes it. See contact.
